Another idea... If you're only using that rewrite to send www.site.com -> site.com, and don't care about redirecting anything else to plain site.com, you could try the following rewrite in place of the aforementioned line 11:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.site\.com [NC]
This one says, "if the host name does start with "www.", perform the redirect.
