    Hello guys,

    i am pretty new to modx so i hope you can give me some directions if this is doable.

    Here's my question: Is it possible to setup a multi language, multi domain/websites with modx?
    The reason i want to do it, is that the sites are edited by the same group of editors. And it would be helpful if they can use the same manager to edit all the sites.

    The multi-language i solved with babel. But as i used up the contexts for translation, i have no solution to store the different websites.

    If i use sub-folders like the sitemap suggests, don't i have to restrict all plugins by myself like:
    - restrict the search for page_1 to only look up stuff inside of page_1 and not search everything in the context?

    What would be the best practice for a structure like this in the right modx way?
    The Sitemap
    -----------
    context: web (default_lang: de)
         --> page_1 (domain.de)
              --> start
              --> pages
              --> search
              --> ...
         --> page_2 (domain_2.de)
              --> start
              --> pages
              --> search
              --> ...
         --> page_n ... (domain_n.de)
              --> ...
         --> webspecials(landing pages, with its own domains)
              --> webspecial_1 (webspecial_1.de)
                   --> pages
              --> webspecial_2.de (webspecial_2.de)
                   --> pages
              --> ...

    context: en (lang: en)
         --> page_1 (domain.de)
              --> start
              --> pages
              --> search
              --> ...
         --> page_2 (domain_2.de)
              --> start
              --> pages
              --> search
              --> ...
         --> page_n ... (domain_n.de)
              --> ...
         --> webspecials(landing pages, with its own domains)
              --> webspecial_1 (webspecial_1.de)
                   --> pages
              --> webspecial_2.de (webspecial_2.de)
                   --> pages
              --> ...
    context: n ...

      if you had it not allready done with babel, you could try migxMultiLang where everything is translated at the same resource without having different contexts for each language.

        That is one reason why I really appreciate migxMultiLang. Contexts can be used for a lot of things, and adding languages to the mix would at least be very awkward.

        As of Revo 2.2 you can have nested contexts, but dealing with one layer of contexts is convoluted enough. It makes my head hurt to think of the gateway plugins and htaccess rewrite rules you'd need to work with multiple levels of contexts.

          Hallo,

          yes dealing with contexts was kind of a Showstopper for me too at the beginning. Had to dig deep in, to understand the mechanics.
          Shawn Wilkerson Book and the online tutorials around the babel plugin helped me alot there.

          I took a look into migxMultiLang, i will try it out in a test installation.
          If i go by the commits in git the plugin is pretty new (first commit on: Jan 08, 2014)

          @Susan, Bruno
          Did you already use it in one of your projects? Is it stable enough for production? Are you satisfied with the implementation? [ed. note: tornpiece last edited this post 12 years, 8 months ago.]
