What are you collecting with getResources?
And how are you passing the id to the modal?
I can think of a couple of ways to do this, but most likely the getResources call is going to have a [[+id]] placeholder in it. How that placeholder is defined is where there are some options.
Essentially the "thumbnail" on the page is just the featured image of a post and I want to show the complete post in a modal dialog. I have several of these "thumbnails" in a grid.
I am taking the id of that thumbnail/post and using jquery to pass the id to an input box on the modal dialog...
On the modal dialog I have the getResources call for the full post...and yes that is where I am trying to inject the id.
Hope that makes more sense!

is this modal a new browser window, or a div that jQuery is populating?
If it is a div, then getResources isn't going to be much help as it would render when the parent page loads. You would need to do a jQuery ajax call to the desired page alias to get the content.
Ok that makes sense!
Thank you for your help.

It all depends on exactly what you're doing. If you are loading everything and using Javascript to hide/show the content blocks, you don't need to do anything else. But, as Jason said, if you want to only initially load the thumbnails and have the content loaded on click you'll need AJAX to request it from the server.
