I recently installed 0.9.6.1p1 (totally fresh, by itself in a DB) and the manager is acting wonky. When I click on any MODx function that requires processing, i.e. managing resources, MODx will return a single pane; it busts out of the frames and I can’t access any of the menus without using the back button on my browser.

I can’t figure it out! huh

    Key Info:

    PHP 5.2.2
    MySQL 5

I also use shared hosting that requires me to manually change config.inc.php, adding a session_save_path command so it will save to the right path, but I’m not sure it’s related to the frames issue.

Thanks for any help/advice you might offer!

This is mostly a browser related issue and absolutely have nothing to do with PHP or MySQL or the MODx version.
sometime i get the same thing but thats when i use to browse the manager in FireFox, it sometimes redirects the parent frame of the manager to some other parallel like the tree view frame or the top frame or even the tab section of main frame itself (i.e: http://yoursiteaddress.web/manager/index.php?a=17 ), you can retrieve the fully functional manager page by deleting the appended manager link (i.e: www.yoursiteaddress.web/manager), it goes back to the manager just like the way you do when you hit the back button of a browser.

        Thank you! grin

I do use firefox for everything. IE works correctly, so I’ll use that for the time being.

I suppose this quirk will be irrelevant soon enough since 0.9.7 will be dumping frames.

I’ve never experienced this with Firefox and have been using MODx on a number of environments for several years; do you have some kind of plugin that is preventing certain Javascript functions from working? Where precisely does this happen?

I do have the Web Developer plugin on Firefox, perhaps it interacts with MODx in some way. It has the ability to disable javascript, among other things, but I have javascript and everything else enabled. My FF version is 2.0.0.11, Windows XP with all the latest updates.

I previously had MODx 0.9.6 installed, and I had no problems with the Manager breaking out of it’s frames.

The only time I’ve had this happen was when there were cookie mixups. Clearing all of the site’s cookies and logging in again fixed it.

I run WebDeveloper, Firebug, NoScript, and other extensions, as well. I’m perplexed... anyone have other ideas on possible causes?

Susan, cookie mixups? How does this occur?

I have seen this in Firefox 1.5 and IE7. I have one specific site that does this 80% of the time. I have another installation of MODx on the same server that never does it.

If there is any specific information you would like me to give, please let me know.
