Go to a page resource, click on tab settings, there is the checkbox "Enable Stats Tracking". If you hover the help icon, it says "Log each visitor's visit to this page".
I could not find any information how to retrieve the statistics data, and if it gets written to modx DB anyways.
Can anyone help to fill this lack of information / no docs...

It used to years ago, but proved to be more trouble than it was worth. Now it's used in add-on tracking snippets and plugins to determine whether that page should be tracked.
