[SOLVED]DELETING via swipe

Hello, I just wanted to let you all know that because I did not understand that you can delete entire directories via drag/swipe with NO ALERT, I accidentally lost my entire assets folder yesterday on a large project and WEEKS of work.

please add an alert on deletion.


please let me know how to disable this or add an alert myself, I will be looking but you can save me time by pointing me to the right directory to change it.

update: I found them buried in a subdirectory just now.

you have no idea ... I had a backup but I still would have lost a ton of time.

Yes. You can't delete files like that, but you can drag-and-drop them into different directories. I've done that a time to two myself.

okay, so I just restored the files and then ATTEMPTED to delete, I thought the files were deleted because after an hour of searching last night I couldn't find them....and there was this icon.

What does this icon mean? the red circle with the line in the screenshot attached? because I saw that and thought it meant deletion. I just tested on a throwaway file and couldn't delete it (major whew, I've been panicked) so what does it mean?????

sorry, its just as far as UI goes if I have this issue then others will too.

No, drag-and-drop is built-in to the tree. The red icon means you can't drop the item there - for example, if you were trying to make it a child of itself. To delete a file you have to right-click and choose Delete File, and a pop-up dialog will ask you if you are sure.

okay, thanks. After working 20 hours straight and having files disappear I was horrified and afraid it meant delete, good to know what that icon means!! LOL even better to get some sleep!!

You might want to consider working with some Media Sources strictly for your convenience that you can use to limit where you work in the file system. The files will all still be visible from the default Filesystem, but it'll be a lot easier to work within a smaller section of the files.

For example, a media source just for the assets/templates/ directory will allow you to work in the css and template images without worrying about uploading something into the wrong directory, or dragging something somewhere you didn't intend.
