    Hello Everyone,

I have more than dozen of projects in modx revolution prior version of modx and client said to upgrade it in Modx Revolution 2.2.11 . I want to know is there any effective way like wordpress (One click) to upgrade modx in new version.

I have already used provisioner to upgrade sites in instance version before. I have also work on manually upgradation. Dont get any other way which take less time to upgrade in recent version.

If you are going from Revolution > Revolution then just overwrite the files, run setup and away you go, Evolution to revolution is a bit more of an issue as you have found out.

I regularly update the installs we have on Revolution without issue some as old as 2.1

It's not as easy as WordPress, but there's a fairly simple method here (assuming that it's Revo to Revo): http://bobsguides.com/modx-upgrade-faq.html

My FTP uploader application has a feature called "Merge" . When I drag and drop all the folder on my FTP it says "Do you wish to || Skip || Replace || Merge "

i select merge. and it doesn't delete any folders.. it just adds new ones and "merges" old ones.

then a second popup comes up for files. and i say "Replace"

that way all the files are replaced with old ones, and the folders are merged in with old ones.

then I goto the /setup/ directory in my web browser and click through the steps and upgrade is done.

its SUPER simple. never once had a problem or issue doing this method.

MODX has several thousand files, and uploading them individually with FTP often results in one or more missing or corrupted files. It's also fairly slow.

There's also a few upgrade scripts in the wild.

Privately, I had 2 MODX developers send me their custom upgrade scripts over the past year so maybe one of them will pitch in and highlight their solution. The scripts don't seem to be public otherwise, I'd have directed you there.

Currently, I use CacheClear to clear the cache and make sure I've flushed all permissions and sessions. Then I login to CPanel and zip up the contents of the folder that MODX is in and download that .zip file to my HD (but keep it on the server as well). Then I export the database and save a copy.

Then I upload the .zip of the new version of MODX. Unzip it, move the files to the root of the MODX folder, and run the install.

                No FTP whatsoever.

The one click update is an attractive idea, but how does one manage a roll back if something goes wrong?

If you will make script public than it would be useful to everyone who use modx forum to learn modx.
May it will something new idea for modx upgrade.

Good question. The best way to implement on-click update would be with auto-backup. Since all my cPanels have one-click backups of folder structure and database, this is already close to a solved problem for me - and doubtless for many others. But there are always people who will forget to back up if you don't automate it.
