    hey there!

referring to a former post of mine

    http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,22490.0.html

i want to have a static menu. thanks to prowebspace i was able to link to a certain document via the document id. this is certainly a workaround. my question now is if it is possible to link to a document via its menu index? this would make much more sense since i can change the menu index much easier than the document id.

    thanks a lot!

Don’t know if you can do that out of the Box. You’ll probably need a Snippet to do that.
I don’t get the point though. The good thing about the ID is that it does not change. Thus it won’t break your menu if you suddenly change the name, menuindex or similar. Why would you want to associate a item with a attribute that can be changed?

I don’t think that the menuindex is a good idea since it is only related to the current level and is not unique. You can set all your documents to have menuindex 1 for example and that would cause havoc to your navigation. I recommend using the ID and making the changes in the static menu manually.

Wayfinder can handle this sort of issue since it works with levels independently from the ids.
