REVO 2.2.11 Upgrade Process

Does the lengthy process have to be performed to upgrade from 2.2.10 to 2.2.11? I spent most of a day backing up files, installing and such. On a server where directory merging must occur using SSH. Makes me wish now I were on a MODx cloud. Yikes.

If you have SSH it should just be a few minutes.

Use scp to upload the new MODX zip file (from your local machine)

Actually I think it's possible to download directly from the MODX repository using your SSH shell on your server -


In your SSH shell, two lines to back up the site (note the space after -u for dbuser, no space after -p for dbpassword):

Next, unzip the modx-2.2.11-pl.zip file, then cp or mv the files in the unzipped directory to your site root:

SSH is much faster. However, because I'm such a novice with it, everything takes much longer cause I'm double checking all my strings and being overly cautious. I'm sure I'll get faster. Fortunately after this recent update from 2.2.8 to 2.2.10, I documented in detail each step, so at least I have my notes to go back to.

So I guess the upgrade is the same. Back everything up including the database. Then after doing the proper logout, unzip the new MODx folder on the server and do a directory merge. Got it. I'll time myself and see how fast I can do it.
