    Hey Everyone,

    I have a general question regarding organizing blog postings (or news listings) within the Content Manager and I’m really interested in the community’s response or opinion. What is the best way to organize blog postings within a folder in the MODx Content Manager? For example, if I’m writing a blog entry once a week for a whole year, I don’t want a long list of articles in a folder. Ideally, I would create a folder for each month and manually move blog postings into the month in which I publish them.

    However, the issues I run into doing that is - the container page must be marked to "not show in menu" so it doesn’t show up as a blog posting, but by doing that all postings moved into that folder do not show up in the blog as the parent folder is not shown. This leads me to believe that all blog postings must live as a single entity within one folder, but I have to believe there’s a better way to organize internally, or some sort of workaround.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

      I imagine you are using ditto? Just move the blog entries into the folder and use the &parents=`1,2,3,4` where "1,2,3,4" are the IDs of all the folders containing the blog entries.

        Thanks for the tip. So, if my file/folder structure is like below than the &parents=`1,2,3,4`should go in the main "Blog" folder? I did that, but it doesn’t seem to be working. The folder "January" still needs to marked to "not show in menu" so it doesn’t show up as a blog posting and when I move blog postings into it - they don’t appear either...

        Blog
        -->January
        ---->Blog Post
        ---->Blog Post
        ---->Blog Post

        -->February
        ---->Blog Post
        ---->Blog Post
        ---->Blog Post

        -->March
        ---->Blog Post
        ---->Blog Post
        ---->Blog Post

          You can use these Ditto parameters to do the trick (just call Ditto from your Blog folder):
          &hideFolders = `1` // to hide folders, obviously
          &depth = `2` // to go through the first level (months folders) to the postings

          (You don’t need to use "not to show in menu" feature.)
          Hope it’ll help.
