How to find number of affected rows after a table update?

Seems strangely hard to find out the new way to do this.

I am doing a simple update, such as

UPDATE bb_product
SET product_name = 'Product31', manufacturer_id='3', pack_size='31', cost='31.00', code='12335'
WHERE product_id = 3

followed by:

$modx->exec($sql); // This works

// None of these work
$affectedRows = $modx->rowCount();
$affectedRows = $modx->getCount();
$affectedRows = $modx->getAffectedRows();

Any suggestions/links for how I can do this?

The PDO::exec() method returns the number of affected rows.

btw is there a fast way to find stuff like this in the docs? I did a search in modx.docs for "exec" and only got a single page (for modX.executeProcessor).

Same question here. Even Google comes up empty. There's the PHP docs on pdo::exec, but nothing about how MODx would use it natively.
