    Guys,

Anyone got a good backup tool / solution they use for their MODx sites? I am looking to backup both the mySQL DB and the filestore files into 1 zip which can then be downloaded to local. I have an old solution I use - which works outside of MODx (http://www.go4it2day.com/news15.html) - but was wondering if anyone had a better solution to this age old problem these days?

    Let me know.

    dubbs.

Thanks, but I'm looking more for something I can run on the local webserver which backsup the site rather than a hosted solution elsewhere // cheers

Databackup (http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/databackup) seems to do the DB backup part but not the filestore element...

Not MODX specific but I wrote a php script that backs up the DB's and filesystem, zips the data, encrypts, then uploads to a AWS S3 bucket. I run it as a cronjob.

It's not in a suitable state to release but is on my todo list for the new year!

That sounds handy David! I guess it could be adapted to place the encrypted zip on the same hosting solution as well? I have had loads of issues before with backup scripts falling over due the length of time they need to process on the server - I'd love to have a test with this once it's ready! Let me know.

            Cheers

Yes wouldn't even need adapting as I separated each step of the process. You just wouldn't run the upload stage.

Good to know someone else might find it useful, I'll release on github some point in Q1 and let you know.

Thanks David. Sounds great. I have always felt MODx has missed a comprehensive backup tool since day dot - be glad to get a new one sorted soon as the current one I use is now very old and subject to falling over very easily when a site gets heavy!

I use Vapor. Setup a local db and MODX install and then just install the package locally.

                  More details here.
