    Hello,

I thought I’d try out MODx; I am looking for an intuitive, light-weight and configurable CMS to help me build sites now, and be customized later as I learn php (instead of just copying and editing scripts).

I made a hassle-free install using xampp on my machine. I also created a new example template, and a new document, and did some other configuration adjustments for search friendly URLs.

But now, I preview the site, and, while the default homepage (I installed the example web site as part of the installation process) is there, none of the links work. I can even see my new document I have created is there in the "Most Recent" field, but the link to it, too, does not work: I get a 404 error for *all* the links from that page.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Thanks in advance to the MODx community.

Did you properly edit and rename the ht.access files to .htaccess both in your site root and the /manager folder?

Thanks for trying to help. I hadn’t changed the ht.access to .htaccess

Now I have, and I double checked my changes with the instructions here:
        http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Friendly_URLs_Guide#Example_.htaccess_file

But, these changes (in the root and in the manager directory) give me Server errors (error 500) for the whole site. Any ideas?

Not really, something in the .htaccess is making your server unhappy. It depends on exactly what the path to your site’s web root is, what’s in the .htaccess file and how the server is configured. Make sure the server allows .htaccess overrides for your site.

I’m not a Windows person, and have never worked with XAMPP, so hopefully someone here who has can help more.

Did a bit of research, and it looks like XAMPP already installs its own .htaccess file. If this is the case, you need to simply copy/paste the rewrite rule to the existing file.

          Interesting article:

XAMPP doesn’t load the mod_rewrite stuff by default. Check your httpd.conf file and uncomment this line:
            #LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
            i.e. remove the #
            restart Apache
            test MODx pages again

Thanks!!! I had almost given up trying to figure out why my new XAMPP install wouldn’t do FURLs. grin grin grin
