I’d like to have a fixed area on the template (say the bottom end of the left navigation area), be filled with the contents of one of my documents. The document’s name in the manager would be something like "left bottom area", so the web editor would know to go to that document to change that area of the website.
So, the template would reference a certain document id to pull in that content, similarly to how a template might reference a chunk.
I would like to do this so that the web editor won’t have to go to the "chunk" area of the manager to change that part of the site, while taking a different path for editing all the other pages of the site.
Is this possible?

Another way would be to use a TV with @DOCUMENT binding.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I tried the @DOCUMENT binding, and that works fine, however it’s unfortunate that the web editor will now see this TV (and any others), every time they edit any of the site’s documents in the manager. They have nothing to do with the page being edited, but still they show up when editing each page.
Any suggestions for getting around this? or is this a possible enhancement to the MODx itself to support something like this more directly?
I’ll try the getField idea next...

I think that
ManagerManager lets you hide TVs.
wes,
You could also make is a checkbox like Syberknight did in this topic:
