I am just about to go live with modx. Super excited.

    My site: http://www.fireflytheatre.com

I cannot install MODX at the root with my server, so now my MODX site is at http://www.fireflytheatre.com/modx/index.php?id=1

can someone help me get to:
    http://www.fireflytheatre.com/index.php?id=1

(I will probably need some help with FURLs after that...)

    Thanks

Moving your site to another directory actually isn't that hard. Read this: http://rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/administering-your-site/moving-your-site-to-a-new-server

Note which steps you should do, because it actually describes the process to move between servers, but it obviously works for moving to another directory as well.

You can actually already enable friendly urls by turning them on in site settings and a small alteration to the .htaccess file. The rewritebase should be /modx/ (since your install is in the modx directory). And of course rename the ht.access to .htaccess.

If you are using Apache (or other web server) Virtual Domains, then you won't need the RewriteBase alteration reflecting your site's subdirectory. The server's virtual domain feature will take care of that.

          Thanks for the speedy reply.

Not sure if this answer is for me. I'll have to look into Virtual Domains.

Thanks for your reply. This looks like something I can tackle. Everything is backed up, so how bad could it be?

The two most important things are to make sure that the three config.core.php files (one in the site root, one in the connectors folder and one in the manager folder) point to the correct location of your core directory, and that the config.inc.php file also has all of the paths and URLs set correctly - there are quite a lot of lines to specify the paths and URLs to various parts of the site.

If you are accessing the site with a URL like domain.com/mysite/index.php... then you need to have the mysite's .htaccess have the RewriteBase set to "/mysite/". If you can access it with just domain.com/index.php... then you need the RewriteBase set to "/" (this is what the web server's Virtual Domain will take care of).

Thanks, guys. Figured it out. Not nearly as terrifying as I thought it would be. Very proud at the moment.
