How much does a website cost?

I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but if anyone has made / knows sites that would cost around 1200 / 2000 English Pounds it'd be great to see them...

I know this is really vague! Hard to get an answer off Google so I was wondering If anyone would be able to give examples easily or not...

I would probably expect upwards of 2000 pounds for a site like that. Depending on the status of the organization (non-profit, etc) I've done them for less than 2000 as long as they don't expect any really heavy-duty custom features. Purely commercial sites I charge much more.

cheers - it's not something that I'm making personally, I've just been overseeing the project. It's been done by a friend and he's undercharged quite a bit even though I stressed to him at the start that it wasn't anything to do with me personally and he should charge what it's worth. There's no chance he's not going to be paid for the work that's he's done, but he could have charged more.

Do you know of any good contract templates for this kind of stuff?

edit - i guess that there's no real 'template' that would suffice - but having an 'example' would be good to see. It would be good to find out how much this sort of thing costs as well (solicitor fees... ) but I'm guessing you're not a solicitor

If you're going to be a professional developer/designer, you really have to get a good lawyer. This isn't something you can do yourself.

Although I agree - I'm not sure how the initial transition into this is made and what the cost of the investment initially is... He doesn't do that many websites really so perhaps having a lawyer isn't financially viable for him

That depends on website's Comprehensive Strength, from annual income, webpage desigh, seo score, etc, and there are many website which can give other wbsite a value of assessment, for example, http://www.toyswill.com/ is about cost $2500.
