I have a feeling this might be a server-side issue, but I thought it could cause no hard in posting here incase somebody has a solution.
I've tried to set up MODX's emails being sent through Google Apps using the Google SMTP settings, see this screenshot for the settings:

Then I have set up the FormIt snippet in the usual way, but every time I try to send an email I get the following errors:
[2013-12-20 23:06:14] (ERROR @ /home/xxxxxx/public_html/core/model/modx/mail/phpmailer/class.smtp.php : 122) PHP warning: fsockopen() [<a href='function.fsockopen'>function.fsockopen</a>]: SSL operation failed with code 1. OpenSSL Error messages:

[2013-12-20 23:06:14] (ERROR @ /index.php) [FormIt] An error occurred while trying to send the email. SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.
Almost all the errors are coming from MODX's class.smtp.php file, anybody have any ideas what the problem could be here?
