Odd ball question for you all.

The SymLinks in my install don’t seem to be working correctly.

I create a SymLink and enter the ID of the resource I want to link to.

When I click the Symlink on the site, it displays a blank white page with only the description field of the linked page displayed.

    Nothing else.

When I view the source of the page, I see the description information in a set of paragraph html tags and that’s it.

Nothing of the template shows up. It’s like it’s only displaying the [[*description]] information.

    I’m stumped.

Is there a setting that I’m missing to enable Symlinks to work correctly?

    I’m running Revolution 2.2.10

    Thanks!

    -Justin

Check the symlink_merge_fields setting in your System Settings.

It should behave much the same as a weblink, only without changing the URL.

What does the template for your target page do?

        That did it.

The setting was set to "yes". When I change it to "no" everything starts working as it should.

        Wow. Strange.

        Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah, symlinks are a little strange. I've never been able to figure out exactly what they're doing. Sort of a general surface idea is that they use the target resource's content instead of having content of their own, then reload themselves with that content. Or something like that. Apparently the symlink_merge_fields setting indicates whether or not to use the symlink's fields if the target resource's corresponding fields are empty, or vice verse. Or something like that.
