I have a site that I have taken over and know nothing about modx. However, I'm looking the "index" file so I can include a mobile redirect code in it. When looking @ the FTP, I cannot find the actual page files. In what folder do these files live? I appreciate the assistance in advance!
You're "page files" would most likely reside in templates.
Depending on what version you're using you can find them in the manager under:
Elements->Manage Elements->Templates (Evolution) or
In the resource tree under 'templates' (Revolution)
Depedning on what structure is used you should be able to find what you need.
Somewhere in your header, i guess.
That's really dependant of how your website was structured, somewhere in your template(s) you should be able to place code.
On a sidenote, the plugin/code you are referring to is posted on june 2007, 6,5 years ago. I think that wouldn't nearly fit to your 2013/2014 needs in mobile device support.

First, you need to login to your site's MODX Manager (yoursite.com/manager)
Then you will want to find your home page in the resource tree on the left (typically the first item under "web" in Revolution). Click on the resource to edit it. Find out what template is being used by looking at the value of the "Template" drop-down.
Then you will want to find that template as thepriest86 outlines above and make your changes to the template as needed.
In order for people in the forums to better help you it would be good to provide what version of MODX you are using.
