I suspect you didn't clear modx cache before exporting the database!?
Have you logged in and cleared cache?
Did you edit the config manually or run the installer on site transfer?
The database is an older one (from 2012). Is it possible that mysql has problem with this older database?
When I go to modx manager>>security>>manage users>>create/edit users, try to change some settings and save, save doesn't work.

Probably didn't clear catche, but the problem is that the server crashed, and this is the only database backup that I have.
I run the installer on fresh server, and then uploaded old database.

Do you have a local webserver (php 5.3!) on you computer?
1. Install modx108 fresh (assuming that was the original verison)
2. import your database.
3. Make sure everything works manager (furl), snippets, plugins.
(For php 5.4 you need modx1012 or later)
4. upgrade modx
I don't have local webserver. I work on a mac and never installed it.
could the solution be to simply upgrade modx on the server?
