I can only speak for myself but I see no need for over dramatising the need for social network optimisation.

I worked as an SEO & SEM consultant for over 10 years, preached what the market said was the in-thing and earnt well doing it.

Now, I mainly run my own sites and you know what - I don't use Facebook, Twitter or the rest - all of my sites are placed in the top 5 in their niche in Google and placed well in other search engines.

Clean, well thought through code and decent unique content is what has been and will always be the long term winner.

When it comes to MODX, well, the optimisation is down to you - you can set-up TV's per page for meta tags, on-page optimisation using relevant code semantics always helps (IMO).

    A little off-topic:

    Other factors could include:

Use a responsive layout to accomodate for the various end-user devices that are used in todays mobile internet

Page load speed must be taken into consideration

Image optimisation - including file size and relevant HTML tags

The list goes on and on smiley

On posting to social networks automatically, this is not a good idea. Not only does each channel have different users, there may be a need to develop slightly different or altered headlines or images. Technology should not be used to solve problems that require decision making. In the case of the MODX blog, we do use Schema.org and OpenGraph for social as well as Google Author meta as well. This is all in place for those who share links of our site but when it comes to posting about our blogs, I use Hootsuite to publish different messages to different networks. Twitter for instance, really deserves more than one tweet, generally, 3 or 4 over 24 hour period and I often use more than one headline. This can't be automated, (though I do schedule it). This can be solved by making sound recommendations to your clients and offering a best practices checklist for publishing for greatest impact.

Sterc's SEO plugin takes many queues from Yoast's WP plugin and helps guide the user and offers field limits and keyword checking. I don't use it but as a veteran web professional, I know what works and frankly don't care about keyword counts but creating valuable content, focused on a single topic.

Jay, I believe this is a very good topic for a post on your blog, I am sure it will be enlightening for us.

I use Modx and Wordpress myself. In my opinion Wordpress is easier and more pleasant for working with blogposts. If you do not mind having two platforms, it is all good. As mentioned earlier in the thread: the getfeed extra can be used to display your latest post on your modx site.
