I have a large site and would like to limit the files available in the document tree for each manager user (they can edit different pages). Now I can select the "Show protected pages" option but that will show all pages, it I don’t select it it will show no documents. The only way I could get this to work was to create a path of allowed documents all the way back to the root, then it works. However I don’t want them to edit the parent levels so this does not actually work.

Anyone know of a way to accomplish this? Am I missing something?

It would be cool to be able to choose between document tree or a flat display, for some editors the tree hierarchy is not needed and with a flat display the user with only deep nested documents could reach them directly.

      Hi dev_cw

You’re right. A flat document view would indeed be better for some of the users!
If a user is only supposed to edit a branch of the tree (even if it’s way down the hierarchical structure), you could set the "Manager Login Startup" Document ID for this user to the branch where the user should have access to.
If the documents are all over the tree, this won’t work of course.

Edit: Hm. I was certain, that the "Manager Login Startup" does indeed limit the user to a branch of the tree. It doesn’t seem to do that however. I wonder where that setting was, because i’m quite sure i used that already.

I also thought the manager user’s view could be limited to certain documents, but I went back and logged into a site as one of my manager users and, sure enough, all the documents are visible. Maybe we’ve all gone nuts? smiley

I also thought so but figured I was dreaming. I can only make it work if I have a path of ’allowed’ documents going all the way back to the root, otherwise it won’t work...but I seem to think it once did...I don’t know...am I loosing it shocked

Hehe. Welcome to the MODx nuthouse. If i had some spare time i’d try to implement the flat tree structure. It could be really useful.
