Getting Parse Error

I am still trying to work out a solution and am getting no where. Everything I try is bombing on me and really need to get this under my belt. I know how extremely busy everyone is and value your time but if anyone can help me solve it I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for the above suggestions.

To ganeshXL this type of db call you are doing is what was causing my issue in the first place but thanks.

To dev_cw this is pretty much the same thing that is here http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/API:DBAPI:connect and it’s what I still cannot seem to get working. I am lost and in case you are thinking I have not read the book, I have.

Please I need some help, thanks!
