How is Last link in pagination is determined?

I'm setting up the blog and using the posts more as a story. As such I've switched the sorting method to ascending so that the first post is page 1, the second post is page 2 and so on. Now with the pagination built into articles the link to the articles container always displays the first page and the last page has the page id of the last published post in the link. How and where is the link for the last button determined?

It should be in the Page Last Tpl setting under Advanced Settings/Pagination.
