Resurrecting an old post, I know, but I'm interested in theme creation for MODx. Would PackMan be useful in package creation for resale? I've never used it before. How did the current batch of MODx theme builders go about creating the ones currently up there? I'm a total nube in transport package creation. Can anyone point me to a good tutorial? All the ones I've seen leave me hanging without really teaching, step by step how to do it.
Seems that simple HTML themes cover the MODx market the best right now.
Actually, I found this post through Google without checking the MODx forum site first. I see there are a lot of threads regarding this. Sorry.
Some people are using MyComponent for this. It's more difficult to learn and set up, but it has some advantages over PackMan if you will be updating the package in the future and/or you use lexicon strings to internationalize the template.

It looks like there are several ways to package a theme - PackMan, MyComponent, and ThemePackagerComponent that I know of so far.
I used ThemePackagerComponent for the kickstart and kred templates I released in the MODX repository. It's pretty nice, but it does have a few odd kicks to its gallop.
Installing the package produces several ugly-looking errors in the console, although it does install without any problems. And I still can't find any way to populate the changelog, license and readme sections, so those are empty.
Uninstalling gets really unpleasant if you used it to install other packages, like Wayfinder or FormIt.
Thank you bob and Susan. I'm going to check both MyComponent and ThemePackager out. Although I didn't try MyComponent, I have to admit, reading all the steps did leave my head spinning a bit. I guess, like you said, Bob, it sounds a lot harder than it is and I actually just need to roll up my sleeves and do it.
I tried using PackMan and, unless I completely used it wrong, it seemed I needed to pack each and every item (TVs, snippets, chunks, etc, etc) separately, choosing each from a dropdown and confirming before going on to the next. Quite a long tedious job, especially since the install didn't seem to offer a way to save a packing job in progress. In other words, at one point, after doing a lot of work, I clicked on another resource to check something out and when I came back, everything was gone! Either finish the whole thing in one sitting or you're out of luck. It did seem to be a beta version though. That's what came up through the package manager so I assume that's the only version available? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
You're right about PackMan. There is a Save Profile option (at the upper right), but I've found it very unsatisfactory.
Thanks, DESIGNfromWITHIN. That's one I think I'm gravitating towards when the time comes.
Bob, at least you saw that. I don't remember seeing even that much. My taste for that package is kinda soured at the moment.

Its limitations were the main reason I created MyComponent.
