    I’m wanting to set up a MODX-powered mailing list.

    I’ve looked at the majority of those within resources, but some of them aren’t very good - or aren’t very well supported (some of which were last updated in 2006), or worse still don’t have a good list of features or work 100% of the time.

    Is there a good mailing list plug-in to use, that can handle managing mailing lists, etc?

    Thanks

      Well, I adapted KoopsMaillinglist to work as a module, but after a while the client was not happy with it. So I went with the perl Dada mail, and simply plugged the urls to the cgi-bin files into a module. Works wonderfully. And you can use a MODx document as the mail. Also has bounce handling as an extra dada module. My hosting company recommends it because it can work in batch mode, sparing the server.

        Hi there.

        Thanks for your help -- does it have double opt-in. The other ones I’ve seen don’t have it, or don’t support it very well.

          If you can provide the Module/Snippet and instructions on how to install this, that’d be great.

            The first thing to do is to set up dada as a stand-alone (access it from your browser address bar: mysite.com/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi) and get it working correctly, it has a tremendous amount of options.

            Once it’s working the way you want, create a new module with this code:
            include $modPath . '/dadamail.php';

            Set its configuration to
            &modId=Module ID;int;7 &modPath=Path;string;../assets/modules/DadaMail

            and edit the module ID to the ID of the module you just created.

            Make a folder in your assets/modules directory named DadaMail. Upload the attached file (remove the .txt extension) to that DadaMail folder. If you really want to, you can just copy/paste the contents of that file into the module creation textarea. I just prefer to do it this way.

            Dada does use double-opt-in, but I haven’t used their registration feature at all, this is being used for a small private list that is managed manually. They have excellent documentation, though; it only took me an hour or so to figure the whole thing out.
