My modx revolution version is 2.2.8, served by Apache2/MySQL

I've successfully created a Resource Group called "Characters", and used the option to create a User Group with the same name. I've placed a few Resources and Users in their respective groups. I've created a Role called "Character Editor - 5000" and given that role to a user. This user can login to the manager, has fewer options than an Admin and can edit and save existing resources.

The problem is that my user needs to be restricted to the Resource Group: Characters. I'd prefer that they not even see the resources sidebar. What else do I need to do to achieve this?

You need to create another resource group with all the resources on the site in it and connect that resource group to the Administrator user group with a Resource Group Access ACL entry with a context of 'mgr'. That will protect all resources, but your existing ACL entry will allow the users in the Characters user group to access resources in the Characters resource group.

To hide the Resource tree completely, you can remove the resource_tree permission, but then how will they edit their resources?

As much as I'd like to report that this solved my dilemma, I likely did something wrong with the permissions for the second resource group (protected pages) because they became unviewable from the front end..

I'll try again in a couple days...

          with a context of 'mgr'

If it affected the front-end, you must have used a front-end context in the ACL entry.
