Does anybody know of anything better than TinyMCE?

I’m having a lot of trouble getting things to look right in TinyMCE without editing the HTML. It does all sorts of weird formatting stuff, alignment in the editor may be left, but on the front end it’s centered, etc. It adds lots of extra tags. Our customers aren’t going to be able to edit the HTML.

Maybe it’s just me. I think in HTML/CSS, so a WYSIWYG editor just adds an extra layer that I find cumbersome. Even Dreamweaver.

You can alter your template so JUST the content bit is editable. You might need extra TVs to accomplish your layout, but you just then could set basic rules such as just use the list, paragraph and headline formatting styles, and use a scaled back editor theme.

I already have just the content being edited by TinyMCE. It’s unpredictable, What You See Is NOT What You Get.

What version of MODx and Tiny MCE are you using? How complex is your content?

It’s ModX 0.9.6.1. I’m not sure which version of TinyMCE. I downloaded the package a couple weeks ago.

The content is fairly complex, with tables, images, flash objects.

I don’t think the users are going to be able to edit tables. If you click in it and enter even one character, it can blow up the formatting. So I’m redoing it without the tables.

But even without tables, it unpredictable, and virtually impossible to truly control the formatting without editing the HTML.

Maybe you should use TVs? You can have HTML output widgets.

Yeah, TVs could probably do it. But that’s not the point. The point is that it would be really nice to find a WYSIWYG editor that doesn’t require all sorts of work arounds. Maybe one doesn’t exist. That’s good for job security.

There is a code clean up feature in TMCE that removes code that it does not like. This could be the issue. I think it it can be disabled, check out the setting in the plugin.

I think the real problem is that you can’t see where tags open and close.
