How to setup SMTP email on a MAMP local server

I've tried using what was stated by BobRay in this post: https://forums.modx.com/index.php?topic=53664.0, but I am still not receiving any emails. Any suggestions?

Hi. That message is from over three years ago, I don't think they user googlemail for anything anymore.

Try using smtp.gmail.com for the SMTP host.

Yea I forgot to mention that I did try using smtp.gmail.com for the SMTP host but that it still didn't work. Here are the settings I have setup:

smtp authentication 1
smtp connection prefix tls
smtp host smtp.gmail.com
smtp password my password
smtp port 465
smtp user [email protected]
use smtp 1


Not sure what else to try. :/

mail_smtp_auth - Yes
mail_smtp_hosts - smtp.gmail.com
mail_smtp_pass - <your gmail account password>
mail_smtp_port - 465
mail_smtp_prefix - ssl
mail_smtp_user - <your gmail login>
mail_use_smtp - Yes
