I (finally, phew) got a user account set up for my client. I was able to give them access so they can change content and upload images, but I can't figure out how to give them access to the SlideshowManager, which shows up in the Components Menu. The user account I set up doesn't currently show the Components menu in the manager, so I need to learn how to do that...

Look at the menu item in System -> Manager Actions on the right-hand tree. Right-click on that menu item and select "Update". See what's in the permission field. Either give that permission to the user, change it to a permission they have in the Manager, or delete it to let anyone see that menu option.
If there's no permission there, the user ought to be able to see that menu option. You may just need to reload the Manager page before it shows up.
