1.0.12 - Include the renamed manager folder in the robots.txt file?

Hello,

With the capability to now change the manager folder name in Evo 1.0.12, should we be including that renamed folder in the robots.txt file to ask search engines not to index it?

Previously we'd have "Disallow: /manager/" as one of the directives.

Does putting the new folder name in (eg"Disallow: /m2nager/") defeat the purpose of renaming because the robots.txt file is a public document which can easily be viewed - and thus the new manager name is easily discoverable?

I currently have the new folder name in my updated robots.txt files but wanted to see how other users would approach it.

Are there any tricks to exclude the "manager" from the robots.txt without actually including the renamed manager name?

Any thoughts?

You are correct about the robot.txt file, can be forgotten very easy, would be better to have some help text with; don't forget to change your robot.txt file next to it.

I think it could also be done with .htaccess but robots looks like the best way to do it if you ask me.

Somewhat, yes.
What would I do: no robots.txt modifications,
leave login form (<theme dir>/login.tpl) head meta tag
to do its job.

Thanks Eoler. I agree, it definitely seems best to keep the new manager name out of there.

Thanks mrhaw. That sounds very interesting and a good precaution for bad bots. I would like to use that but I am not quite sure where to put it in the accesscontrol.inc.php file and which code to replace - I will ask in the other thread.
