I cannot figure this out, I have even been in communication with the plugin developer on this but can't seem to fix it.

I have been developing on my local computer using TwitterX to load in a twitter account. It displays tweets just fine. Then when I started moving the site over to the live page (http://www.glorkianwarrior.com) the Twitter feed just disappeared. The chunks I sent to the developer he was able to use and display just fine, he even tried with keys I provided from Twitter.

Then he suggested I try a different host, so I set it up real quick on MODX Cloud to test it out, and it works fine, just copying and pasting all the same stuff to the cloud.

What could be going wrong with my host?

The PHP or even the server configuration may not allow the opening of any external links.

Is there a way to test for this? I was just looking in to see if there was any different configuration options and I started with server requirements (which is something that is tested on install, but i thought I'd start at the beginning anyways)

In the Server Requirements listed here: http://rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/getting-started/server-requirements

And the only discrepancy I noticed was this configuration option in the server-requirements lists: magic_quotes_gpc off

and I noticed in my php info that "magic_quotes_gpc On On"

Could this be part of the problem?

It might. That "escapes" all single- and double-quote marks in GET, POST and COOKIE values, so you might have a lot of extra /// characters in your database, which can cause problems.

So if I update my PHP and change this, will I have to flush out the database to get this fixed (assuming it is the problem)?

If it has added a bunch of escape characters into the database, you may need to remove them. The database should only have one for every quote mark. Some snippets as well as parts of MODx use stripslashes to remove extraneous slashes, but not all.

I'm not at all familiar with how the Twitter library works, so having extra slashes in something like your URLs is the only thing I can think of.

magic_quotes_gpc could well be causing the problem. I suspect that TwitterX is using cURL to get the Tweets, so another possibility is the cURL is disabled or misconfigured on the host.

Also, when moving to the other host, did you install TwitterX from the repository? If not, it may have some settings and/or properties that are specific to the previous host that were set on install.

Ok, so after a little while of trying to get this working, I am still lost on getting it to function.

To answer your question, BobRay: I did install from repository for all versions of the site.

I went in an updated PHP to the most recent on my server. magic quotes was deprecated and then eventually removed from the latest stable version of PHP altogether. So it shouldn't be a problem. Everything else seems to be updated. Are there default cURL settings I need to change? When I installed cURL locally I didn't change anything and the plugin worked fine on my local server.

I am at a loss as to where to go with this problem. Is there possibly a log I could look at that might tell me any errors that I'm not seeing elsewhere?

I should say after updating I installed a whole new version of Revolution on different site in a different database on the same dedicated server to test this problem out further. It was still not working.

I don't know how TwitterX works, but PHP may be configured to not allow treating remote URLs as a stream.

Is there a way to check to see if this is enabled? Or what the setting might be called?
