HI, I am new to this site and new to Modx having recently decided to ditch Pixie CMS which I have had fun learning the basics on with CSS and HTML

since movig to MODx I have struggled with building menus for my site that I am creating

its not public yet so I cant offer a link

I am trying to use wayfinder but the whole system just seems so bloody long winded and in need of so many elements to be added just make a damn menu

now before you say use the search feature, I have this was my result
    myvar is one

so I am here to ask, nay beg for help

    I want to turn this

Home

About

    							Services

Service Page 1

Service Page 2

    									Service Page 3

Service Page 1

Service Page 2

Service Page 3

Service Page 4

Service Page 4

Projects

Blog

Contact

    							Bonus Pages

Home Style 1

Home Style 2

Gallery Classic Page

Gallery Projects Page

Under Construction

Error Page

Full Page

3 Columns Page

Left Sidebar

Right Sidebar

Sitemap

Styles

Facebook

Twitter

RSS

    into this

    <ul id="main-nav"[[+wf.classes
    [[+wf.wrapper]]

    [[+wf.linktext]] - [[+wf.description]]
    [[+wf.wrapper]]

Facebook

Twitter

RSS

but I have no idea why it doesn't work or how to make it work and frankly having spent nearly 17 hours fighting and reading every bit of documentation... I just figured seriously... I thought MODx was to simplify things, this seems so bloody complicated.

why cant I just create a single chunk to out put my Navigation menu instead of having like three or four chunks that I have to somehow string together

please please some one help me

    yours sincerely Sad n Depressed

Welcome to the world of MODX - firstly call wayfinder with the following commands

      [[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &level=`3` &outerTpl=`myOuterTpl` &innerTpl=`myInnerTpl`]]

Make a chunk called myOuterTpl and give it this code

      <ul id="mainnav"[[+wf.classes[[+wf.wrapper]]

Make a chunk called myInnerTpl and give it this code

      <ul [[+wf.classes[[+wf.wrapper]]

Then make your resources as they are in the static HTML above, make sure they are "published" and that hide from menus is not ticked.

If you've done all that - your menu should appear smiley

Hi thank you for the reply

I have changed the chunks I made

        I had three

        active
        row
        outer

I called way finder but I was getting no where

I have delete my set up and done the one you have suggested

I dont get the desired layout I am hoping for it just seem seems to stack all the menus in a list top to bottom, maybe my css needs altering

but thank you for the help

In the first place, in rik-sprint you have [(modx_charset)] instead of [[++modx_charset]]. I see one sub-menu item in the Blog menu.

Are you using Articles for the blog? Articles pages are automatically set to not show in the menu.

The other site has a couple of errors - no closing > on the <body tag, and an extra closing
tags

            Always validate!

thank you for the heads up on the errors I will look into them.

after a little sleep about 4 hours (its the depression tablets keep me awake)

              I found the error

Make a chunk called myOuterTpl and give it this code

              1

              <ul id="mainnav"[[+wf.classes[[+wf.wrapper]]

this didnt align to my css it should have been class=main-nav

I was so tired I just couldnt damn well see it

thank you all for you help
