build array from chunk delimited list

i have a chunk that contains a delimited list of values (that also serves as a binding for one of my template variables). the delimited list is in this format:
key1==value1||key2==value2||key3==value3

i need to get this chunk into a string and parse it into an associative array (key => value) format so i can step through it to build a front-end display of the data.

i have the string from the chunk, but can anyone tell me what the code is to get it into a key => value format?

so, so simple when i see it. thank you very much. this will work perfectly. i think i have to keep the || delimiter though since this chunk also serves as @BINDING values for a template variable.
