Hi everyone,
I’ve been designing sites for a while, and have used CSS pretty extensively but have never really touched a CMS.
This morning I decided I’d give it a try.
A friend uses Joomla, and another friend uses Drupal. I’ve also heard good things about MODx, so I thought I’d check it out.
The install was pretty easy, but I’m now running into a bit of confusion.
It seems that when I create a new page, it’s added to a database or something [not 100% sure how it’s done] and it’s retrieved and displayed is index.php?id=5 or similar.
I’m wondering if it’s actually possible to have it create a php file called about.php or something similar, or if it’s limited to passing a variable to the index.php file?
As I said, I’ve looked through the documentation, and can’t find too much but perhaps I’m just too tired and am missing something glaringly obvious.
Many thanks :>

If you turn on caching it effectively does that but not in the manner you wish (see the assets/cached/ directory). You can also use the static html output tool to export static pages. This works well for brochureware sites that don’t need to do things like submit forms.

Perhaps you mean "
friendly URLs" ?
In a nutshell, turn on "Use Friendly URLs" in Manager -> Configuration, and rename the ht.access files in your root and in the manager folder to .htaccess.
There is a way to use htaccess files with Windows servers; search the forums for discussions on this.

Ah, thank you both of you.
Not sure which option I’ll choose, but I’m much less confused now :>
