    I don't know how to fix this: "It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EDT/-4.0/DST' instead in /home2/ospeace/public_html/manager/includes/browsercheck.inc.php on line 15
    Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home2/ospeace/public_html/manager/includes/browsercheck.inc.php on line 15"

      Have you tried setting the timezone in php.ini?

      date.timezone = "Europe/London"

      Or htaccess?

      SetEnv TZ Europe/London

      Replace "Europe/London" with your server location timezone from this list: http://php.net/manual/en/timezones.php [ed. note: absent42 last edited this post 13 years, 1 month ago.]

        In addition to fixing the date/timezone error, you should change the error reporting level and turn display_errors off or your site will be either displaying ugly error messages or crashing with some regularity when PHP is upgraded and more functions are deprecated or when there's an error in an extra you've installed.

          php.net doesn't make any sense to me. I'm just a beginner at this. Is the date/timezone setting in the cpanel somewhere? Or do I have to go to php. And how does this interface. My website is jankaproject.com If you go on it and try to access the press section you'll see the error message. Eeeek! I need help. Oscar

            Make a file called php.ini containing the line mentioned above and upload it to your server.

              @ ospeace

              Your site is running an outdated version of Evo - I imagine something like 0.9.6, mayber a little later - 2005 is on the manager page

              I suggest you take a look at what I posted some time back, you can find it here

              If you get your site up and running with that information I suggest you then update your website ASAP to the latest or one of the latest versions of Evo, or even Revo if you have the knowledge to do so.

              For the php.ini file:

              Create a text file and rename it to "php.ini"

              Copy and paste the following code into the "php.ini" file:
              date.timezone = Europe/London

              Changing "Europe/London" to your timezone - looking at your initial post, change it to "America/New_York"

              Your result should look like:
              date.timezone = America/New_York

              Save the file and upload it to your server - place it in the root and in the manager folder.

              If you already have a "php.ini" file in the root folder, simply add the date.timezone info to it, but still upload the new one to the manager folder.

              Once uploaded, clear the cache in "assets/cache" per hand and then try to log into the manager.

              If that doesnt work - provide more information here.

                The error message won't let me login to manager. I can login to the cpanel but not manager. Now what?

                  Upload the php.ini via FTP, not the MODX manager.

                    cPanel has nothing to do with the Evo manager.

                    @ ospeace - You have been told what to do:

                    1. Create a php.ini file (simply create a new txt file and rename it to php.ini)
                    2. Add "date.timezone = America/New_York" to the php.ini file (without the inverted brackets)
                    3. Upload the php.ini file to your server via FTP - you might be able to upload via cPanel, but you will have to check if you have that functionality
                    4. You need to place a copy of the php.ini in the root folder and a copy of the php.ini inside the manager folder

                    NOTE: The root folder is where the "assets" & "manager" folder are located, alongside the "index.php" & ".htaccess" files - you may also have other files and folders alongside the standard files and folders.

                    Once you have uploaded a copy of the php.ini to the root and a copy to the manager folder - goto the login page and see if you can log in.

                    Before asking for further help upload the php.ini as stated, as there is no point you asking "Now What" if you dont do what you are advised.
