Conditional output modifier on Articles not working properly?

I want to show "comments" related output within the "sample.ArticleTemplate" in a blog made with MODX Extra "Articles" only if there are any comments so I thought that would do the trick. It doesn't ... actually it looks like that is greater than 0 all the time.

... so I tried but still no success in getting rid of the "Comments (0)". [[+comments_count]] displays the right amount of comments (in fact, zero) but fails to be processed properly with conditional output modifiers. [[+comments_count:gt=`0`]] should give a FALSE for "0" shouldn't it?

"Comments(0)" must be coming from another tag. The one above wouldn't display the comment count.
