    Hi there,

I’m very new to the land of MODx, but have been very impressed so far! I’ve been able to easily incorporate my existing site’s design - something which I have NOT been able to do with others I’ve tried.

I have tried searching for a solution to my query, but obviously not using the ’right’ terms, as I’m sure someone else has wanted to do this before!

I’m building a site for a chamber of commerce, which has around 100 members. I’d like to offer each member their ’own’ page on the website - eg, they’ll have a username and password, and be able to log in, and edit THEIR PAGE ONLY. Further to this, the page that they can edit should have a rigid outline of what is actually editable, for example, a set area for their business details, another area for general business info, and two or three pictures.

Can someone please point me in the right direction with this? I thought using a Web User would be the right way, but it doesn’t allow me to edit a page from the front end - I think they only protect certain pages from the public. Do I have to make each user a Manager User, give them a very limited ’Role’, and assign them to their own Manager Document Group (which only contains their own page)?

Then, with the page template thing, I think I have to use chunks to get this set up right?

Thanks very much for reading, and I hope someone is able to help smiley

    Cheers,

    Jacob

Okay, I’ve kept playing around with it, and worked out that I need to create the new page, assign it to a Document Group, create a new Manager User, and link the Manager User to the Document Group. I’ve also made all the other pages within the site belong to a Site Admin Pages group, making them only visible to a Site Admin user, eg me. smiley

SO!! I’m halfway there! Now I’ve just got to get my head around making the various sections of the template page editable, and then I’ll be a very happy chappy....

Use TVs for the sections, and in your template call them with a # like this: [*#TVName*] and do the same with the main [*#content*] field, then they’ll get the little Edit buttons for each section. Use the RichText input type for the TVs and you should be all set.

If I recall correctly (which is always questionable) it is possible to set each user’s login page, and it’s also possible to have QuickEdit not display the main menu bar, just the individual edit buttons.

          Thank you Susan!

I had worked out how to set the user’s login page (great tip thanks!), but the edit button wasn’t showing. I found out that the ’Run Module’ option had to be ticked in the Role settings for that role smiley

This is just great!! I’m slowly getting there, but it’s starting to make some sense, and I love how powerful it can potentially be.
