    Description of Problem:

Thumbnails are not correctly generated by phpthumb in the manager interface - I'm just seeing missing images where I would expect to see a thumbnail. If I embed the image in a resource and then look at the rendered page, I do see the image there - so it appears the file upload itself is working correctly.

I've tried just running phpthumb by itself (outside of the context of MODx) on the same server and it appears to function correctly, so I think this is a file path issue somewhere inside of MODx. Unfortunately, I know very little about the internals of MODx so I would really appreciate any advice on troubleshooting this problem. Thanks!

    • MODX Version: MODX Revolution 2.2.8-pl (traditional)
    • PHP Version: 5.3.18
    • Database (MySQL, SQL Server, etc) Version: MySQL 5.1.57-community-log
    • Additional Server Info: The server is set up as a "farming" installation where there are multiple sites all pointed to the same core files.
    • Installed MODX Add-ons:
    • Error Log Contents: (attach as file if it’s too large)

Can you check if the directory "core/cache/phpthumb/" contains any images and that you (and the manager) have read permission for those images?

Can you try to manually define the system setting "phpthumb_document_root" so it points to your document root?
System settings > core > phpThumb. [ed. note: labr1005 last edited this post 13 years ago.]

        Setting `phpthumb_document_root` fixed it. Thanks!

I just noticed something a little strange. It appears that all I have to do to fix this issue is set `phpthumb_document_root` to a value - it doesn't appear to matter what value I set it to.

Does anyone happen to have an idea why this might be the case? I'm happy that it's working, but I'm curious as to why.
