  • Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a sneak peak at the new MODX Cloud status page.

    http://status.modxcloud.com/

The first thing you'll notice is that MODX Cloud is made up of a number of components. Sites ("clouds") are hosted on the "Platforms", so if your Cloud's UDN is c0003.paas1.tx.modxcloud.com, for example, it's hosted in the Texas datacenter on the Texas 1 web server (paas1.tx). We're tracking uptime and overall server response time via Pingdom, which is what a lot of our customers are also using.

The response times of individual MODX instances on these servers will vary, according to attributes of your MODX site, and in some cases, the amount of traffic the site is receiving.

Initially, the statuses of the 9 main components (which currently read Operational) are being handled manually. Over time, we hope to automate statuses and incidents to whatever degree is feasible.

I'd love to hear any thoughts, questions or other comments that you might have.

    • As an aside, the effort to put together a meaningful status page also included revisiting our server monitoring in general. We've ended up with a system that gives us better (and deeper) visibility into all of the moving parts of MODX Cloud. This will help us in our efforts to continue improving performance and stability.

Looks great. Thanks guys for putting this together and for listening too.

What do the 100 and 50 refer to under each location under System Metrics?

          • That's the uptime percentage as reported by Pingdom, Peter. Currently, it's based on Pingdom hitting the homepage of one site on the server, and expecting a response code of 200. That is a MODX-generated page, so it does involve PHP and MySQL - if there are problems with either of those services it will be reflected in the uptime.
