    I get, almost a delayed, pop-over window containing an error notification. This "bug" is described here: http://bugs.modx.com/issues/8836. You can see that it is getting some age to it and seems less a bug and more a server issue as no workable solutions have been offered. 11 months ago it was downgraded. Status changed from Open to Feedback, Priority changed from Major to Trivial and Resolution set to Cannot Reproduce.

    It is extremely annoying and non-trivial to me as it happens with nearly every link I click on in manager. Has anyone else faced this and discovered a solution?

    Changing file permissions accomplishes no difference and I have not encountered such an error before on this server. Additional error information: "Apache/2.2.24 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.24 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at oldhamcreative.com Port 80"

    Finally, this MODX 2.2.9-pl install was performed via my cPanel's Installatron script.

      Sounds like mod_security like mentioned in one of the ticket comments, have you checked with your host to see if that is installed? Other than that, it might be SELinux ... which hosting provider are you with?

        I have been in touch with my server admin. mod_security is installed. However there are other MODX installations on this same server...mine is only one with this issue. She verified that the files are owned by my account as well. She suggested reviewing the config file to verify the completeness of the path. It all seems correct. Makes sense since I can launch manager and apparently can do most of what I want. May have more answers tomorrow.

        Now I did install this one folder down from the site root. Instead of '/public_html', is is installed in '/public_html/content' My config.inc.php, if this is the correct one, reflects this path.

          Rainbowtiger's comment on the bug report seems really likely to me. That's the only way I can see that you'd get that as an intermittent problem. I wonder if your hosts other MODX sites might be Evolution, which wouldn't have this problem.

          FYI, you're probably not lookng to change, but here are some MODX-friendly hosts.

            No, the other MODX sites are Revo. They were set-up by a couple of experienced MODX developers. Their recommendations were also to change the permissions to 755. I love where I'm hosted so a switch from MODX to something else would happen first.

              Solution found. There was a line in my .htaccess file that would return an error for 'register.php' .
              Commented that line out and the error went away.

              This domain used to host a WordPress site. It doesn't any longer. So this may just be leftovers. Not sure if this is part of mod_security or just WordPress.

              The line that caused the problem:
              'RedirectMatch 403 /(contac|fpw|install|pingserver|register)\.php'

              Affected section of .htaccess file:
              ...
              # 5G:[REQUEST STRINGS]
              <IfModule mod_alias.c>
              RedirectMatch 403 (https?|ftp|php)\://
              RedirectMatch 403 /(cgi|https?|ima|ucp)/
              RedirectMatch 403 (\=\\\'|\=\\%27|/\\\'/?|\)\.css\()$
              RedirectMatch 403 (\,|//|\)\+|/\,/|\{0\}|\(/\(|\.\.\.|\+\+\+|\|)
              RedirectMatch 403 \.(cgi|asp|aspx|cfg|dll|exe|jsp|mdb|sql|ini|rar)$
              RedirectMatch 403 /(contac|fpw|install|pingserver|register)\.php
              RedirectMatch 403 (base64|crossdomain|localhost|wwwroot)
              RedirectMatch 403 (eval\(|\_vti\_|\(null\)|echo.*kae)
              RedirectMatch 403 \.well\-known/host\-meta
              RedirectMatch 403 /function\.array\-rand
              RedirectMatch 403 \)\;\$\(this\)\.html\(
              RedirectMatch 403 proc/self/environ
              RedirectMatch 403 msnbot\.htm\)\.\_
              RedirectMatch 403 /ref\.outcontrol
              RedirectMatch 403 com\_cropimage
              RedirectMatch 403 indonesia\.htm
              RedirectMatch 403 \{\$itemURL\}
              RedirectMatch 403 function\(\)
              RedirectMatch 403 labels\.rdf
