Error running setup after moving to a new Ubuntu Box (core.transport.zip)

    Hi All,

    I've just setup a new Ubuntu box and moved a modx site over to it. Friendly URLs aren't working so I ran setup: Setup checks were fine but the install bought back the following errors:

    Error updating table for class modTemplateVarResource
Array
(
[0] => 42000
[1] => 1061
[2] => Duplicate key name 'tv_cnt'
)

The install failed because MODX could not unpack the /var/www/my-website/public_html/core/packages/core.transport.zip package. Make sure that the /var/www/my-website/public_html/core/packages/core.transport.zip file exists and is writable, and that you have made the /var/www/my-website/public_html/core/packages/ directory writable.


    I can confirm that core.transport.zip DOES exists and IS writable, same for packages dir. But I still get the same errors.

    Any ideas what the problem could be? Could it be that my Ubuntu box needs something else other than whats listed here: http://rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/getting-started/server-requirements installed on the server?

    I've moved dozens of modx sites around preconfigured servers before an never had any issues like this so thats why I think it could be a server issue (im pretty new to linux/commandline)

      So... I fixed the friendly URLs issue (failed to reload apache config after adding the rewrite module DUH). But I'm still interested to know why I'm unable to run the installer on this virtual machine:

      Digital Ocean Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Box running apache2 and PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3

      If there are any good Linux guys out the I'd really appreciate the help, I'm very new to Linux and server admin in general and barely treading water

        is the core/packages/core directory writable too? It probably already exists; you could try removing it so it gets extracted again.

          Check you have the Zip PHP module installed and, I'm not sure if this would be required, but maybe install unzip: apt-get install unzip

          Other than that, could still be permissions, double check those. I know my DO box uses www-data as the user, so chown your MODX directory (files and folders) to www-data:www-data and chmod files to 0664 and folders to 0775.

          Not near my laptop to run through an Apache setup to confirm - let me know of you have further issues though.

            Its definitely not permissions and unzip is installed on the server however the zip PHP module sounds like it is likely the problem because I get the same issue with a fresh install on this Box. Cheers Gary!

              Hi Ash,
              I had the exact the exact same problem, moved to UBUNTU, and it is not letting me install MODX. A quick easy solution was to manually remove the 'core/packages/core' directory and MODX unzip-ed just fine and it works fine now... BUT, this seems to be related to Ubuntu for some reason.
              Did you find any solution or reasons at your end?

                Aha. Genius. I've been trying a "somewhat insane" upgrade from 2.0.8->2.2.10 and was getting stuck until trying your plan of deleting the 'core/packages/core' directory. It all now works, beautifully.
                This was on a Debian server.

                    Replying to you all about the issue related to folder permissions when installing MODX.
                    The solution I pointed out, of deleting the CORE directory in the PACKAGES directory fixes the problem. The reason for this issue is related to PHP run as mode. It should all be installed on PHP FastCGI mode. If you install it on APACHE mode, you will run into this kind of file permission issues.
