I'm back to focusing on this subject ... next, is it possible to alter the initial manage users page (without hacking core files)? I'd be looking at adding one or two of my extended user fields and removing the id listing.

Yes, I did this recently, though I didn't change the grid, just the getList processor.

Basically, you create a CMP with its own user grid JS file (modx-grid-user.js) and copies of any processors that you want to alter, create your own controllers and a connector, point the "Manage Users" menu item at your own index.php file which then initializes your class and loads the altered grid.

It's not a trivial job. wink

Here's a simple example for a MIGXdb-CMP, which can manage modUsers.
You can simply configure your own form within the MIGX-configurator.

forgot to add the Link to the example-files:

Ok, thanks for the advice ... I suspected it's what would be necessary. So in this case the duplication of code (some of which is to be altered) is really the only avenue to truly customized user management. It's easy enough on the front end to view/write extended user data, but on the back end there's no way to make use of what exists to build upon. Is that a fair assessment? It would be interesting (and no doubt quite involved) to make the user object configurable via the manager.

Saying there's "no way" is a little strong, though I think "no easy way" is fair with respect to the grids. There are ways to add fields to the Create/Edit User and Resource forms and you can always create a front-end form or a CMP for your CRUD tasks.
