How to set TV from snippet?

After a day of unsuccessfull attempts of making any of two existing document APIs (docapi class and document class) work with 0.9.6, i want to ask, is there an easy and correct way of setting document parameters, such as document’s internal variables and TV’s?

Please post sample code or just point to well-written plugin for 0.9.6 wich sets TVs and other document parameters.

FDM can handle that, ironically it is based on the doc manager api.
