I think they do almost all of what you want. Register will make sure the user's email address is valid.
I think one option with Quip is to moderate the user's first comment, but allow all comments after that to be published without moderation.
You might also look at the Subscribe extra, which includes Registration capability and allows the option of letting the user self-select groups and/or interests.
Hi BobRay!
No, I haven't tried Quip yet because I was looking for more a of a plug-and-play solution. I don't want to bother templating the output or anything...which I'm guessing I'll hafta do with Quip seeing that it's a MODx Snippet

Otherwise I think I wouldn't have bothered with all of this researching I'm doing right now and use Quip.
So, this is for anyone else reading this post looking for a similar solution
I've been playing around this morning and I think I'll show my client Disqus. I've found a piece of code which displays most recent comments:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://YOURDISQUSWEBSITENAME.disqus.com/recent_comments_widget.js?num_items=25&hide_avatars=0&avatar_size=40&excerpt_length=200"></script>
and the following code ALMOST works so obviously it's unusable now. It displays a pretty cool tabbed widget that displays Top Commenters, Most Recent Comments and lastly the one tab that doesn't work is, Most Popular Posts:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://YOURDISQUSWEBSITENAME.disqus.com/combination_widget.js?num_items=25&hide_mods=0&color=grey&default_tab=recent&excerpt_length=70"></script>
BUT I did realize that Disqus has their own version of Most Popular Posts called 'Top Discussions' which is kind of buried under the comment input box. You have to click on 'Community' in order to see it :S So...I have a feeling that my client is going to think that it's way too hidden. He wants it to be its own separate widget.
