preliminary note: Sorry for my "little" english.

As I posted in the german forum before:

    http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,20012.0.html

    I would to know:

OPINION: For Joomla they say, the system is for little or medium size projects, useful. So what is MODx for?

    - Is there a chance or a way for modx to handle a site for lets say 30.000 users. Do you know hardware scenarios?

    - Are there any implementation, experiences for modx, i.e. load-balancing, data-replication, session-management ...

    - Experiences about cluster respectively more than one webserver or database (separate databases / replications), other way to handle big projects respectively avoid "denial of service"

    - What hardware do you prefer, can be recommend?

    - Do you know any benchmarks, for example "ab" for Apache.

Do you mean Users who log in or visitors?
We have a MODx site that hits 18000 visitors per day.
      No issues at all.
      Regards,
      David

Yeah this is a really good question.. but the results will depend on numerous factors.

Of course at the core we have apache and server hardware...

Can we say that a good gauge would be a cumulative bench of Apache, SQL and PHP?

I also would like to know the answer. Is MODx for high traffic sites ?

First of all, I think the software should have features / architecture to support high traffic.
I had used a CMS that works well at low traffic, but takes 20 seconds to load a page in case of high traffic. (That too, on a dedicated server)

So, MODx has the capability to handle high traffic ? Any high traffic websites that implemented MODx ?

@Suri.CMS: MODx serves approximately 5 to 20 pages per second according to AB on various pieces of hardware I have here at the house. If you have a server you want to try it on, I suggest installing it on the real-life hardware and seeing how much it can handle with AB yourself. And high-traffic is nebulous here anyway; I get 450 uniques per month on one site, and I consider that a high number, but, seriously, despite my bad humor, it really is relative...

That said, there are certainly scalability issues that can arise in current releases of MODx (especially with large quantities of documents being managed in a single instance), but since it is a framework which you bring most of the code and content to, just how scalable your site will be depends completely on what it is you do put in there. Future releases (see the roadmap) are addressing most of the current issues, including the introduction of database session handling, caching mechanisms that have been streamlined and expanded in scope, and much more.
