    Hello!
I have a site to which I frequently add pages. Up until now I have been simply adding the pages manually. But since the pages are so similar, I should presumably be doing this via a template of some sort.

Previously I have quickly set up data entry forms via PHPMyEdit, and it works great. But in the above case, I’m not just filling in forms with fields, but would be putting these fields into an HTML template for display. I’m looking for your excellent ideas for the easiest way to achieve this!

I’m thinking along the lines of having a form for field entry. Then the form data would be used to populate a template, maybe a chunk. Then the chunk with its filled in fields would be used in a table update, adding a new page to the site. It doesn’t need to be pretty, because site visitors wouldn’t be seeing it, just me.

I’m looking at snippets for doing this, and a few look promising. Eform is the supreme form-builder, but it doesn’t do much in the way of table updates. Docmanager looks quite interesting, as do Ditto or maybe DocAPI, none of which I have used before.

    I envision 2 scenarios:
    - Snippet opens up new doc pre-populated with chunk data. I fill in the blank spots, and save the doc. I don’t know if the snippet would be doing the saving, or if it would simply populate the editor, which would handle the saving. I’m sorry... total beginner in this area. smiley

    - Snippet just throws up a form that I fill in. I click a save button and behind the scenes the fields are merged into a chunk, and database is updated, new page is made. This would probably be very nice and clean.

I could be on the wrong track here - maybe there’s an easier way. What do you think? Any ideas appreciated!!!!!
    Thanks, Samba

Two off the shelf options; use 1) NewsPublisher or 2) FDM (Frontend Document Manager). Both provide the ability to do as you described via a simple form. NewsPublisher is a bit less complex and FDM has more features like editing and deleting document as well as using eForm for process the forms with validation.

NewsPublisher is one of the default snippets so you may already have it installed, FDM can be found here:

        Hi,
Thanks so much for those ideas! With so many snippets and apps to choose from, it can be hard to choose, and by the time you do, you may have futzed around with 10 different things. For some reason, news publishing didn’t occur to me, for instance. I got too focused on database update fields, I guess. Trees vs. Forest. Or something like that. grin

I think you saved me a lot of time, and I appreciate it!!!!!!!
