Hi Fellow Posters,
I am new to using CMSes and I was thinking to use either MODx or Joomla... I have heard so much more about MODx and how its easy to use. I have already installed MODx but I am having problems installing the templates. I am not sure how to do this and it seems that there are many templates available and so many different folders to upload to the file manager which really causes confusion to a new users to CMS like me. Can somebody please help with regards to this or maybe point me to a resource which shows me on a step by step instructional basis on how i can install new templates to MODx. It seems it’s not just an easy cutting and pasting to the template source code but requires uploading of files and such.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Hi I did. I however downloaded templates found on the template section on the forum which came in a zip file which had folders that contain images, css scripts etc. Its not just a straight forward cut and paste into the template section. I am familiar more with the blogger CMS where you can just download the the text documentation and paste it into the template section. Here there are files and folders to be uploaded so I am a little bit confused with that. Thanks.

The MODx template system functionally turns the index.php file into a normal HTML page and doesn’t impose any restrictions on where you place what. You would reference external CSS and images just like you would on a normal static website. There’s advanced stuff you can do but that should get you started. (Search for documents as a css file for one example of an advance application.)

The zip archives usually come with full installation instructions.
In a nutshell, paste the template itself into a new template in the manager. Upload the css, js, and images to /assets/templates/templateName.
If you’re going to be doing a lot of templates, I’d recommend installing the SkinGraft module. I use it on my template showcase site loripsum.co.uk
