I am looking for some help, I would love to develop a new vacation rental website (similar to sites listed in the title) with the ability for owners to list available property, pay a submission/membership fee and then update content via a secure website interface (not MODX admin).

Having been entrenched with an in-house day job I have been away from MODX over the past couple of years so would love some up-to-date advise.

Are there any plugins which would facilitate this type of project. I know that perviously public side editing via a secure login was particularly tricky to develop, has this changed?

I have also been looking at dedicated directory type products such as PHPMyDirectory.com and even Classipress (please no! not WP wink ) but being a huge MODX fan I would obviously prefer to develop my new business venture using my fav CMS.

I would be very grateful for some up-to-date advise.

I have done FrontEnd editing and a User Manager in the Front End using Login and NewsPublisher so I would start with those.

For membership again I think Login would do the job and for adding new properties a custom FormIt form and getResources to list them.

The hardest part might be the permissions if you're not used to MODX ACLs and the payment stuff unless you plan on using paypal or some other 3rd party merchant.

      Good Luck.

        Thanks benmarte.

I would most likely use PayPal for payments. Do you know if there is a way to create recurring payments and setup different membership types?

For example users wishing to have a featured listing would be asked to pay a premium.

For different membership types I would use a different user group, as for recurring payments maybe the SubcribeMe extra would work.

Awesome, I really love the idea of being able to develop my new business venture with my favourite CMS. It's been way too long since my last MODX project.
