I needed to add <base href="[[++site_url]]" to the template and that fixed the problem. Thanks for the assistance.

The only time I've found the <base... tag to be a problem is with the JQuery UI Tabs widgets. For some reason they've decided that the base tag is evil, and refuse to fix their library code to support the concept, although they did report it as a bug and fixed it for earlier versions of JQuery UI.

The result is that if you use a JQuery Tab widget with the base tag in your template, the content of the tab will be the entire page, not just the div or other HTML element's content that you want in the tab body. There are several workarounds for this problem. http://tjvantoll.com/2013/02/17/using-jquery-ui-tabs-with-the-base-tag/
